Haute Couture refers to the creation of exclusive custom-fitted fashions. The Chambre syndicale de la Haute Couture draws each year a list of fashion house which will be granted the title of Haute Couture designers. These designers have to follow the Chambre's rules :
- Design made for private clients
- Have a workshop in Paris which employs at least 15 people and a certain amount of luxury fabrics
- Present a collection in Paris each season including at least 35 runs with outfit for both daytime and evening wear.

Today it is said that only about 100 women can afford these dresses which prices can rise up to 100,000 EUR.

Presenting a Haute Couture collection every season is very costly, therefore few fashion houses are still interested in making this kind of effort just for the prestige of it. The Chambre Syndicale invite a few designer every year to presnt a Haute Couture collection even if they can't abide by all the criteria.
Oh my God what a disappointment! I managed to get a seat at our buying session for Lanvin ready-to-wear AW08. I was so excited!!! My favorite! I already had in mind beige thick carpet, a quiet lounge and espressos. I was imagining models who would "slide" around quietly to present the new creations.

I was in for a treat. The Showroom was actually a HUGE room in the Trocadero Museum. 30 square tables for 4 people each dispatched around the room. 1 of each piece of clothing hanging on 1 entire wall of the room. You just had to fight to get to the skirts and dresses, grab a model and have her try it while following a temp sales person who just wouldn't hear that WE DON'T BUY LADY'S SUITS!!!!

The whole time people were grabbing clothes so you had no way of knowing if you weren't missing on something. The model you had trying on the dress you wanted to see "on the body" (on the bones would have been more accurate) just goes past you and you can't see a thing.

At 3PM I was exhausted by the constant noise, unnerved by our uncompetent sales person, and feeling so sad for the models.
I am no fat lover but there are limits. These girls are 16 and they are an insult to the creation they are wearing. YES you need at least a hint of a butt and a 85B to wear anything beautifully. GET rid of these girls and find some real women!
